Summer & Session Beer
Summer and Session Beer
Finally Summer! If the weather continues to bring us sunny skies we’ll all need a few more beers to cool us down. In that case the Session Beer fits the bill beautifully. Session beers are lower alcohol, thirst quenching, crisp, usually light colored beers. Rumor has it that session beers came about in America because brewers wanted the freedom to drink more of their beers in multiple quantities!! But history says Session beer came about during WW1 in England where the government would not allow breweries to brew stronger beers in order to keep people focused on getting through the war (now whether that is true??). In any case, after the war England began to tax beer on alcohol strength with the more alcohol the higher the taxes so most breweries kept their alcohol strength low to keep beer less expensive. Most beers in England now are lower in alcohol because the tax continues to this day.
Chuckanut brews a new Session Blonde Ale with an alcohol volume of just 3.8% and we like to
call it the Lawn Mowing Beer! Crisp and light, a bit sweet from malt, fragrant from the hops, and thirst quenching this is a beer you can drink in multiples in hot sunny weather (or cold for that matter). It‘s nice to have a variety of beers to drink that fit each mood and this is the one for when you’re hot. I like to think it’s the Pinot Grigio of beers! Unfortunately we just ran out at the Kitchen but in a few more weeks they’ll be kegging up another batch so if you haven’t tried it yet ask your favorite watering hole to order it or come by the Kitchen for a pint. Cheers!
