Dortmunder Lager
Golden, dry, bready, moderate bitterness
Golden, dry, bready, moderate bitterness
In the 1870’s bustling working class city of Dortmund, Germany developed its own adaptation of the Pilsner style. The Dortmund style is slightly darker than Pilsner, a burnished honey gold, edging toward amber. It steers away from the bold hop bitterness and aroma of Pilsner, preferring a firm maltiness, a full bodied, slightly sweet palate, and a clean, dry finish.
FOOD PAIRING // Dortmunder features more malt flavor and alcohol heft than the Pilsner or Helles, making it work particularly nice with red meats. Dortmunder is still bitter enough to handle spicy food but has sweet elements that are complementary to Thai food and Asian dishes. Try it with our Tuna Appetizer for a great pairing.
